Welcome to our monthly series Meet the Team, where we spotlight the extraordinary people that make Bayley & Sage so special. This month’s feature is on Caitlyn, our Technical Manager. Read the full interview below!
1. How long have you been working at Bayley & Sage and what different roles have you held within the company? What is your role now?
I joined Bayley & Sage this past December as the Technical Manager. My role focuses on all aspects related to food safety and product quality.
2. What’s your favourite thing about working at Bayley & Sage?
I love the diversity of my role! Every day is unique, and the opportunity to work in both a kitchen and retail environment is rare. There is so much room for growth contributing to different areas of the business.
3. Who has inspired you the most throughout your career?
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to encounter several remarkable women who have each left a lasting impression on me so it’s hard to pinpoint just one. They’ve all achieved great things early on, serving as mentors and sources of inspiration who embody positivity, balance, and confidence in pursuing their goals.
4. Have you always worked in this industry? If not, what other types of roles have you held?
With a background in Food Science from the University of Stellenbosch, my career has always centred around the food industry. Prior to joining Bayley & Sage, I worked as the Convenience Food Technical Manager at HelloFresh UK.
5. What’s the best advice you could give someone who’s just starting out in their career?
Embrace your career journey as a learning experience and don’t shy away from challenges, even if they seem intimidating. Betting on yourself is essential for growth.
6. What are some of the accomplishments you’re most proud of?
Definitely moving to the UK 3 years ago and persevering through some of the challenges of moving to a new country, particularly during Covid.
7. What are you most looking forward to this year, both personally and professionally?
One of the main reasons I moved to the UK was to travel and try new things so I am looking forward to the holidays I have planned. Professionally, I am looking forward to getting stuck into my role and continuing to build upon the food safety management system and food safety culture.
8. If you could only eat one thing from Bayley & Sage for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
My ultimate death row food is anything cheese-related, and Bayley & Sage is the go-to spot for it. I love the Cheshire Cheese Company’s Mature Aged Cheddar.
9. How do you spend your time when you’re not at Bayley & Sage?
As an avid coffee drinker, I spend most weekends enjoying walks and indulging in coffee and a croissant. I also love hosting friends for a drink and a South African-style ‘Braai’.
10. What’s one interesting fact that we might not know about you?
I have signed up for a half ironman in September. Please share if you have any helpful tips!
