Welcome to our monthly series Meet the Team, where we spotlight the extraordinary people that make Bayley & Sage so special. This month’s feature is on Saniyo, our amazing Senior Sous Chef. Read the full interview below!
1. How long have you been working at Bayley & Sage and what different roles have you held within the company? What is your role now?
I started working at B&S in February 2022 as a Senior Sous Chef. My roll is to lead the kitchen team, cook our delicious kitchen items, and help the menu development team with the creation of new products.
2. What’s your favourite thing about working at Bayley & Sage?
I like that B&S is somewhere I can share my skills and talents, and have them rewarded with opportunities to grow in my career.
3. Who or what has inspired you the most throughout your career?
My culinary journey began in 2008 and over that time I have had the privilege to work in many different kitchens, each offering unique lessons and opportunities, but my biggest inspiration remains my parents.
4. Have you always worked in this industry? If not, what other types of roles have you held?
Yes, since starting my career I have been in the food industry. Prior to joining B&S I was working for British Airways flight catering for 8 years. This is my second job since moving to the UK.
5. What’s the best advice you could give someone who’s just starting out in their career?
Be friendly and believe in yourself. Focus on gaining knowledge and learning as much as you can. Learning is performing, and the appreciation from your peers will follow.
6. What are some of the accomplishments you’re most proud of?
Definitely my son, I’m very proud of him. I love watching him grow and learn.
7. What are you most looking forward to this year, both personally and professionally?
Personally, I’m looking forward to a holiday with my family back home in India to visit my parents. Professionally, I’m looking forward to our new kitchen product launches, which we’re already working on.
8. If you could only eat one thing from Bayley & Sage for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
This is hard because I like so many products at B&S, but if I had to choose one it would have to be the Chicken Tikka Masala.
9. How do you spend your time when you’re not at Bayley & Sage?
When I’m at home I spend time with my family, cooking special meals for them, and going to church.
10. What’s one interesting fact that we might not know about you?
Before moving to the UK I worked on a passenger cruise ship and have cruised around the world! And apart from cooking, I also enjoy fruit and vegetable carving.
