Meet the Maker – Driscoll’s

Welcome to our monthly “Meet the Maker” series, where we spotlight the incredible suppliers that we work with at Bayley & Sage. With summer finally here, what better time to shout about our delicious UK grown strawberries?

Berry Pioneers

This summer, we’re shining a spotlight on the berry pioneers at Driscoll’s. For over 100 years, this family-run business has been growing some of the world’s most delicious berries, from sweet strawberries to tangy blackberries and vibrant blueberries. It all began in California’s Pajaro Valley in the 1870s, when Joseph ‘Ed’ Reiter and Dick Driscoll grew their first sun-ripened strawberries. What started as a humble farming experiment has since blossomed into a global name known for flavour, quality, and sustainability.

Today, Driscoll’s berries are not only grown around the world but right here in the UK. Working closely with local independent growers, they produce berries that are hand-picked at peak ripeness and packed in the field to lock in freshness. Their unique, naturally bred varieties are cultivated to thrive in British soil, delivering the perfect balance of sweetness, colour and shelf life. Whether it’s the unmistakable juiciness of a UK-grown strawberry or the vibrant tang of a just-picked raspberry, Driscoll’s is proudly bringing the taste of British summer to your table.

A Commitment to People, Planet, and Produce

Driscoll’s believes in growing more than just berries. As a multigenerational, family-owned company, they’re driven by a long-term commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. From reducing plastic waste with new 94% plastic-free packaging, to leading water conservation efforts in Spain, Morocco, and beyond, Driscoll’s is focused on future-proofing both the land and the livelihoods of those who cultivate it.

Supporting farming communities is also key. Every Driscoll’s berry is hand-harvested, and their Thriving Workforce Standards ensure fair and ethical practices across their growing network, including a recent initiative to support Ukrainian growers as they rebuild homes and lives through berry farming.
