Meet the Team – Lajos

Welcome to our monthly series Meet the Team, where we’ll spotlight the extraordinary people that make Bayley & Sage so special. This month’s feature is on Lajos, who works at our beautiful new Abode Belgravia store. Read the full interview with Lajos below.

1. How long have you been working at Bayley & Sage and what different roles have you held within the company? What is your role now?

I started working in Bayley & Sage last year October, starting my journey in Marylebone in the fruit and veg section. Now I’m in the Abode Belgravia store as a Sales Supervisor since May.

2. What’s your favourite thing about working at Bayley & Sage?

The family-oriented atmosphere. Everyone is so kind and friendly. It doesn’t matter where are you from or what kind of role you have, there is just pure kindness. I’m proud too that I can use my creativity while I’m working.

3. Who has inspired you the most throughout your career?

There are countless people. Mostly my friends inside and outside of the company, but also my partner has inspired me a lot. My godfather has been the biggest inspiration to me my whole life. Unfortunately, he passed away last year, but he continues to inspire me every day.

4. Have you always worked in this industry? If not, what other types of roles have you held?

I have had many different roles and jobs in my life. I was a local TV reporter, a traditional Hungarian furniture painter, a restauranteur, a dancer, a teacher and a waiter. I’ve always liked new challenges and I want to prove that I can do it even if it’s really difficult. A smooth sea does not make a skilled sailor.

5. What’s the best advice you could give someone who’s just starting out in their career?

If humans can reach the moon, any other job or challenge is not so difficult. Always keep learning! After all, no one can take that from you! Be you! And never forget: if you want to see a rainbow, you need to stand in the rain! I know it sounds cheesy but trust me!

6. What are some of the accomplishments you’re most proud of?

Hmmm… I’ve been fortunate to have had quite a few. Some of them are that I held the Olympic fire in 2012, been on a cover of a fashion magazine, had a fashion show in Budapest in front of thousands of people and one of the universities in London used me as an example of an artist. Remember, it’s not the end that is important, but rather the journey to reach higher and higher levels.

7. What are you most looking forward to this year, both personally and professionally?

I want to start my own business as an artist and to not be afraid to sell my art to people and get more of my art out there. I would like to give more focus to my health, especially my mental health. I really want to work as a model at least once in the London fashion scene by working with professionals. And I would like to start dancing again!

8. If you could only eat one thing from Bayley & Sage for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

Definitely our Bayley & Sage Mac & Cheese… Or wait Ham and Comte baguette… No! Mushroom tagliatelle! It’s hard! I love all of them!

9. How do you spend your time when you’re not at Bayley & Sage?

Mostly having fun with my friends. Or watching thousands and thousands of movies or Star Trek constantly with my boyfriend. But usually, I love being in my own world and drawing my deepest fears and creepy monsters 🙂

10. What’s one interesting fact that we might not know about you?

There is a lot because I’m shy to share it with people sometimes. I was the best Jung artist for 4 years in Hungary. I studied animation and movie making. I was an actor and dancer in my city theatre and because of that, I became very well known. So, every single time I go home I need to go incognito. There are way more details about this, so feel free to reach out for a chat if you would like to know more! (I like gin & tonic so… )
